Idrissa Guiro is a documentary filmmaker. He is particularly interested in international migration. In the meantime, he conducts very personal projects, such as documentaries for television, and animates cinema workshops in sensitive neighborhood colleges of the Parisian suburbs in France. His first film, Barcelone ou la mort (2008) receives the Louis Marcorelles Prize at the Cinéma du Réel at the George Pompidou Center. It has been presented at MOMA in New York and has won awards at ten international festivals, including the UNHCR Best Human Rights Message Award. In 2012, while working on Cendres, a documentary which will then be released in France in 2015, he was resident of Villa Kujoyama in Japan, the Asian equivalent of Villa Medicis.
He is currently directing We are building the world, a long-form documentary on Nepalese youth emigrating to the countries of the Persian Gulf. His work has been broadcast on TV 5, ARTE, France 3, CFI, RTVE (Spain), Canal + Afrique and France.
